Platinum Editions

Because the platinum/palladium process is essentially a hands¬≠-on printmaking process, no two prints in an edition can be or will be exactly the same. All platinum/palladium prints are produced in an edition size of twenty one (21) prints. In addition, three (3) are produced as an archive proof, two (2) as a museum proof, one (1) as a bon √† tirer and seven (7) as an artist’s proof.

It provides an opportunity to establish an accurate database as to the location and who the owner of the print is. If there is a question of fraudulent copying or representation, theft or loss of a print, it’s original destination and owner can be easily confirmed.

All original platinum/palladium prints are signed by the artist on the rebate of the print in graphite at the bottom of the photograph. This in itself makes copying otherwise impossible because of the texture of the graphite signature on the platinum substrate cannot be duplicated by any process and cannot be erased or removed except by destruction or excising that portion of the rebate. Prints are provided unmounted.

Many buyers and collectors are also concerned about how many prints have already been made and remain to be produced. This is because prints of later edition numbers are deemed more collectible .

As editions become sold out, the price of each succeeding print increases because fewer and fewer prints remain to be purchased by the general public.

Custom Black & White Editions

Platinum prints are made by the process of contact printing a negative of the size required for the final print. However, these ultra large format negatives can also be enlarged to produce exceptional wall mural size B&W silver gelatin prints exhibiting unsurpassed detail and depth. For example, only a 3X enlargement of a 12′ X 20″ negative measures 36″ X 60″. In addition, they can also be contact printed on Amidol developed Kodak’s AZO paper to produce detailed and long scale silver gelatin B&W prints.

Working With Black & White Prints

I use a cold light enlarger capable of enlarging any negative up to 12″ X 20″ in size. The advantages of such a print are an astonishing degree of clarity and freedom from grain as well as a perceptible perception of depth.

I do not produce black and white prints larger than the width of the roll available for the particular paper used, generally not exceeding 40″ in width. Typical print lengths vary from 50″ to 72″.

I print on Polymax Fine Art, Agfa Multi-Contrast Classic, Ilford MGIVFB, and Forte PGV4. In general it takes about one week to produce the larger prints, and three to five days for the smaller prints.

These prints are very much in demand for wall art, for corporate showcases such as boardrooms and offices. Each image is produced in an edition size of three, seven or twenty one depending on the dimensions of the print. All prints are toned in either gold or selenium.

Custom-ordered prints can be selected from any platinum image or from the black and white gallery below. Prints are delivered unmounted.
